Hymn Upstairs

I've had a little word with Him upstairs,
Asked how on earth it is up there.
He said "I'm still alive,
And occasionally still kicking, can't you see?
I've come a long way since it all began.
Now I am chameleon.
Got a name, sex, shape and ideology to suit all mankind.
So, please believe in Me,
I'm on my knees, please believe.
What will it take, to make you believe in Me?
Oh, please believe in Me,
I'm on my knees, please believe.
What will it take, to make you believe in Me?"

Then he said: "I've had a lot of flack over many years,
For being the cause of a pandemic craze,
Of righteous genocide,
And sectarian slaughter and persecution.
But it's not my fault that I've been misread,
By sanctimonious so-called 'Holy Men',
That have bent the word and indoctrinate teachings of hate.
But I'll take the blame,
In their name, I'll take the blame, in their name.
But what will it take, to make you forgive Me?
I'll take the blame,
In their name, I'll take the blame, in their name.
But what will it take, to make you forgive Me?"

Then he said: "But behind this savage cloud there's a lining that shines,
With such passion that it's liable to blind.
And this lining is;
the faith, hope and charity of billions that choose to believe.
I said the faith, hope and charity,
Of billions that choose to believe.
Oh, the faith, hope and charity of billions that choose to believe.
So celebrate in Me,
It'll liberate, you'll see.
But what will it take, to make you celebrate in Me?
Oh celebrate in Me,
And jubilate, it's free.
What will it take, to make you celebrate in Me?
It'll liberate, you'll see.
So what will it take, to make you celebrate in Me?"

"Celebrate in Me!"
